For low powers and general purpose applications LaserPoint utilizes a black coating BBF derived from astronomical research. The power density capability is limited to 200 W/cm², but has the important advantages of a flat spectral response in the range 0.19-25 µm and the bearing of a very high absorptivity (> 96 %) over the entire range.

Standard broadband absorbers can hardly withstand the disruptive situations generated by high power industrial lasers. LaserPoint has developed new high density and better thermal conductivity coatings for those demanding lasers. On LaserPoint heads from 1 kW to 3 kW the HPB absorbers can withstand 4 kW/cm² for CO2 in CW operations and works in the range 0.25 µm -11 µm.
The SHC is a real high power coating. Laser Point's specification curves for the SHC are based on test campaigns made with our customers in disruptive conditions and show that the properties of SHC are steps ahead any other coating: it withstands more than 12 kW/ cm² in CW operation, with an applied power of 1 kW of Yag laser, or 40 J/cm² with laser diodes peak powers of 3.2 kW @ 1 ms! Compared to other absorbers for high powers which can be used on limited spectral ranges, SHC has also a very high absorption ratio ( > 85%) over an extended working range ( 0,25 µm to 25 µm), making it suitable for safe applications in almost all laser domains.
LaserPoint has developed a very hard absorber EX with flat response in the range 0.19-0.4 µm, ideal for its use with industrial Excimer lasers. It has also a remarkable high absorptivity at 10.6 µm, so it may as well be used for CO2 lasers. The ridged substrate surface induces multiple reflections that increase absorption to the highest available levels on the market. In the UV the coating can withstand >0.3 J/cm², high repetition rate, ns pulses at 248 nm and has a peak power density capability 4 kW/cm².
